Embracing Change

| | | Watch | Booties

My hair is part of what makes me, me. I remember watching America’s Top Model and seeing the contestants crying when the stylists cut off all their hair. I remember thinking, I would cry too. In fact, most people feel like their hair is part of their identity. Would you agree?

Most of us like to change our hair color and/or cut for each season, or if we go through a life change. I think it’s awesome how different a new hairstyle or look can make a person feel. During my life, my hair style changed a lot, mostly because I was experimenting and didn’t know what I wanted. When I was nine years old I got a perm. My head turned into a hot mess. In middle school I went to sleep with curlers rolled just on the bottom half of my hair every night. My mom told me that was the way to do it. Those photos make me cringe but at the time I was pretty proud of those curls!

Every time school started a new year, I wanted a new “look” – I wanted people to know I matured over the summer. I remember over a few years during high school my hair kept getting lighter and lighter from all the bad highlights until finally I just chopped it almost all off for summer. So for a few months I had a chin-length bleach blonde bob. During that time my style became a little more daring. My hair made me feel more confident.

In the last few years I’ve decided that long, glamorous and full hair makes me happy and gives me the most versatility (which is important because as a fashion blogger I’m constantly styling and creating different looks!). I do like to change my hair color based on seasons, and I like to do a lot more braids and beach waves over the summer, versus straight or more refined curls in the winter.

Changing up your hairstyle can have a huge effect on your overall look, and in response how people react to you and how you feel. If I didn’t experiment my whole life, I’d probably still be experimenting today. If you don’t LOVE your hair right now, try something new (and the great thing is, your hair will always grow back!). Do what makes you feel the most comfortable. Do what makes you feel YOU!

Hi Jessica! New follower here. Found your blog through Caitlin. Now I have two bloggers I adore and will be following! I agree that your hair is a big part of you. I donated 10" of my hair 2 years ago. It was one of the best decision I've made. At that moment, I needed change. Being a new mother, having long hair was too much to keep up. I told myself that change is good. That was what gave me the courage to cut it all. And that's exactly what I did. I got a red balayage(from virgin dark brown) and got a lob. It was such an experience! My hair is now medium length and I am growing it out because I kept cutting it once it reached medium length (I just don't like it in between, ha) so now I'm patiently letting it grow. Your hair looks beautiful. I love the bayalage/color. Did you find those booties to be true to size? xo,Amy Z

Love the outfit. Perfect for Fall. That bag is really beautiful and I love the structure of it. Hair is important to me too. I've recently cut my hair, yes it was longer, and I feel so different. I don't think I'll cut my hair 'shorter' again. I think I'll wait a little longer and get my hair trimmed like yours.Best,The Heba xx
