|At the airport on our way to New York…(Outfit details: Rockland luggage (also recommend these options here and here that comes in a set of 3) | BB Dakota jacket (sold out, but similar here and here)|
Yesterday my sister and I headed to the airport for New York Fashion Week (NYFW) and we were so excited! We couldn’t wait to be in New York, see all the shows, and meet up with friends.
Unfortunately, we didn’t end up making it. Since social media tends to only show the glamorous side of traveling, I thought I would share a behind-the-scenes look at what happened yesterday and why we weren’t able to make it to NYFW.
After we boarded our plane, we were told there was a storm in Denver and flights were grounded so our connecting flight to New York was cancelled. The airline had everyone get off the plane that had connecting flights and then we all got in line to be re-routed to our destination. After standing in line for about an hour, when we finally got to the front the representative told us that all of their flights to NY were booked so there was nothing that would get us there the same day, or even the next day. They could put us on a flight on Friday, which would get us to our destination around midnight.
Most of our main events were scheduled for Thursday and Friday so we HAD to get there by Thursday morning at the latest. We spent the next hour or so looking up different flight options on different airlines (we were on Southwest). Since it was last minute the best flight options we could find were crazy expensive as well as having over 12 hours of travel time. While we were thinking about that option, I asked where our luggage was and the rep told us that our luggage was still on the plane (which had now departed from the gate). We were so confused. How come our luggage wasn’t taken off the plane when we were told to get off?
At that point we had no luggage and didn’t even know if it could make it to NY in time if we found another flight. My sister and I had ALL of our clothes in our suitcases so we would have nothing if we got to NY. (This is a good reminder of why you should always put your most valuable items on your carry-on. If you can’t live without it for a day then don’t put it in your suitcase. Camera equipment, laptops, chargers, makeup, etc. should always be on your carry on!). We also heard about the severe storm warnings as a huge storm was coming through Thursday (today) and most flights were expected to be canceled (which they were).
After much disappointment we decided it was the best decision not to go NYFW. This was a very hard decision to make as we had spent the last few weeks planning and scheduling everything. From the flights, to the shows and parties, and all my outfit planning…there was a lot of work that had been put into this. (I even had a package that I needed for my trip arrive at the UPS store the morning we were leaving so my other sister drove over an hour to go pick it up while I finished last minute errands so I could bring it with me).
Sometimes things don’t go according to plan, but it’s important to remember to always make the best of everything, no matter your situation. Like on the bright side, I now have bunch of new, cute outfits! 🙂 While I didn’t make it to NYFW this season, I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s pics and hearing about the shows! And to all my friends braving the storm in NY right now, please stay safe–and warm!! XOXO
