Fall Hair Care Tips

Colder temperatures can definitely take a toll on our hair. I know I’m much more prone to breakage and drier strands going into these winter months. To help keep my hair healthy (and happy!), here are some post-summer hair care tips I like to follow:

Combat the drier, colder air with extra moisture.
I like to use a shampoo & conditioner that has moisturizing benefits. I recommend the Herbal Essences bio:renew Rosemary & Herbs or the Herbal Essences bio:renew Coconut Milk collection. The bio:renew Rosemary & Herbs collection helps provide your hair with light moisture while the bio:renew Coconut Milk collection helps deeply hydrate hair and protect hair from further damage. If needed, you can also use leave-in conditioner and/or use a moisturizing serum such as the Herbal Essences Coconut Milk Oil-Infused Crème for extra hydration.

Go darker.
I love my highlights but it takes a toll on my hair. I haven’t gone darker this fall (yet!) because I’ve been loving my current hair color, but probably will in the next few weeks. Going darker and not having to highlight hair every few weeks makes such a huge difference for me. My hair always feels so much healthier and there are definitely less tangles.

Less shampoo, more dry shampoo.
Keeping those natural oils is important so I try not to wash my hair everyday. I’ll use the Herbal Essences bio:renew Dry Shampoo to give my hair some life for those days in-between washes. Even when my hair is freshly shampooed, I still like to use dry shampoo for extra volume and to start absorbing any oils early.

Keep up with your salon appointments.

It’s important to have your hair trimmed every few months to cut off any split ends, This should really be done year-round, and I’ll admit is is something I always have a hard time keeping up with because of my crazy schedule. When I do make it to the salon, I always wonder why I didn’t go in sooner! During my appointment I also have my hair toned and deep-conditioned—which is very much needed if you have color-treated hair!
