My Birthday Weekend in Kauai

This beautiful beach is right in front of the Ko’a Kea Resort in Kauai!

Last weekend Cordon and I went to Kauai for my birthday. It was a sweet 3 days, just me and him! We stayed at the Ko’a Kea Resort which is super romantic and peaceful. I loved our deluxe oceanfront room on the ground floor where we could just open the lanai doors and walk out onto the grass. (They only have 6 oceanfront deluxe rooms and 4 like the room we stayed in – so if you want one, request a room between 176 – 179!) And if we walked just a couple feet more to this beach. Apparently the water right here is even great for bodyboarding and surfing!

There were so many things I loved about our room. First off, Ko’a Kea surprised us with a bunch of yummy snacks! Then there was the comfy bed – where the pillows were just right! We were able to connect our phone to the enormous flat screen TV on the wall and watch our current favorite Amazon Prime show (Sneaky Pete)! The marbled bathroom was gorgeous. The shower even had multiple shower head settings and Cordon said one of the settings was so soft it felt like air!

On my birthday day, we first went to Kauai Backcountry tubing which is about a 3 hour activity. It is a nice, relaxing and sort of fun thing to do in Kauai. It would have been more fun if I had worn a wet suit jacket since I felt cold most of the time (lots of chilly and dark tunnels), and also if the river/stream was faster and more exciting.

Later we went to the Beach House restaurant and I don’t know if it’s because Cordon requested a table next to the ocean and they sat us in an area that felt too busy and loud, quite far from the ocean view, but after we got moved to a better table, all the servers seemed to go out of their way to be kind to us. One server even came up to me and told me I looked like I was famous? 🤷🏻‍♀️

My sister said I match Barbie!

Everyday we always had so many options – should we take a dip in the ocean, the Ko’a Kea Resort pool or hot tub? Should we relax at the hotel, get massages, hang out by the cool tiki hut bar or should we explore the island in our cute green Turo? I noticed they offer surf lessons here and also rent out boards for surfing! I don’t surf but Cordon got to go out and enjoyed it very much 🙂

On our second day in the afternoon we decided to drive to Wailua Falls, which is only a 30 min drive from Ko’a Kea Resort. I really, really wanted to hike to the bottom of the falls for some exceptional photos but alas the timing was awful because we arrived right when the state cops/security were kind of guarding the entrance to get down and they told us they wouldn’t recommend going down because we would get fined. And we ended up seeing 3 couples (funny enough, they were all young, fit and good looking – people you would expect to be cast on a survivor TV show lol) separately come up that had been at the base of the falls, and they all looked a little sheepish since they got caught. I had no idea it wasn’t allowed, I’m still not sure if it’s illegal, but I will hopefully get a chance someday! It was still a stunning view from the top!

A beautiful morning at the Ko’a Kea pool

We had two meals at the Ko’a Kea Resort onsite restaurant – Red Salt. This restaurant is amazing!! We 110% enjoyed both the breakfast and dinner here. Service was amazing both times, and honestly everyone we met that worked at this resort was so friendly.

Cordon and I are ready for dinner!

Ordering dinner 🙂

Me: White Knit Top (Wearing XS) | White Knit Skirt (Wearing XS) | Cork Sandal Heels – true to size | Earrings | Gold Necklace

Him: Linen Shirt (wearing size M) Similar shirts: (1) and (2) |Linen Pants – wearing size M| Sandals (In Hawaii they are referred to as slippers)

For dinner we ordered the Ko’a Kea roll and the Cane Fire roll! Both A+. I also ordered the braised beef dish which was delectable, I wish I could have some now!! Cordon ordered the Filet Mignon and he practically licked that plate clean 🙂 For drinks, we can recommend their mai tai, old fashioned, and virgin lava flow, yum!

This mocktail is soo delicious and probably so full of sugar 😂

For our breakfast at Red Salt, their acai bowl was probably one of my top 10 acai bowls ever. And I sure do love a good acai bowl. I should probably write a blog post about my favorite acai bowl spots… what do you guys think 🙂

We also shared the Breakfast Tacos and Ko’a Kea French Toast. The breakfast tacos were really delicious and so was the french toast but would probably try the Lemon Pineapple Souffle Pancakes next time.

I saw this in the lobby and thought I would share with you guys! I wish I could attend all of these 🙂

Waimea Canyon Lookout #1

White Crop Top [similar] | Denim Shorts (I’m wearing size 25)

On the last day we visited Waimea Canyon, and I must say the drive up to the first lookout made me a little carsick. But the views were worth it and I would love to explore more of Waimea Canyon on foot someday!

This is in Waimea Canyon and let me just warn you, this red dirt will get on everything!!! It stained my brown leather slippers and would have been so sad if I had been wearing white shoes.

Right outside our room at the Ko’a Kea Resort in Poipu, Kauai!

Overall such a wonderful, easy going trip full of good food and great times with my man and pup! Thank you Ko’a Kea Resort for the best stay!
