One of the steps to simplifying your closet is to create a collection of wardrobe staples that are versatile and can be worn on a daily basis. As surprising as it may seem, having fewer items in your closet has many perks! You will find that it is easier to keep a clean and organized closet, you will feel less stress getting ready for the day, and you can be more creative when it comes to creating outfits. With just 10 pieces of clothing, you can actually create more than 30 outfits (less really is more)! After doing some outfit planning with my own wardrobe, I wanted to share an easy day to night look I created using my own closet staples.
A pair of jeans, white tank, sneakers and small crossbody bag are part of my wardrobe must-haves. Your collection should slightly vary to due seasons, so right now I have all my spring/summer items out. White is such a light, summery color so having white sneakers makes it easy to pair with any outfit. I love these Topshop jeans since they fit my petite frame (I’m 5′ 4”) and they are high-waisted which makes them extra versatile! For example, if you are wearing a tee, you could wear it loose or tuck it in and add a belt for a more casual chic look.
I accessorized my day look with a few simple, classic pieces of jewelry: my ‘J’ initial necklace and nude watch. These are on constant rotation, and very easy to mix-and-match. And keeping simple living in mind, I have my NESTEA (their new and reformulated iced teas have fewer ingredients and a simpler recipe) with me throughout the day to quench my thirst.
Another closet staple is a black leather jacket (or in my case, a suede one) and black heels. This jacket is always my go-to for when I’m going out on the weekend or grabbing dinner in the evening. To make my outfit take me from day to night, I layered on my black jacket, switched out to heels and added a few additional pieces of jewelry. You can also make your look even more glam by adding some darker lip color and/or eye color.
With just a few essentials, you really can create so many looks! Pinterest also has tons of great ideas and visuals to help you curate the perfect collection of closet essentials. If you are looking to simplify your life in different ways, your closet is definitely a great place to start (we do get dressed–if not multiple times–every day!). And once you experience the joys of simpler living, who knows where it will take you!
